Syria – Bombing of a school in Idlib – Statement by Jean-Marc Ayrault, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development (October 26, 2016)

I utterly condemn the bombing targeted against a school in Idlib on October 26. At least 22 children and numerous civilians were killed.

The Syrian regime and its supporters - far from implementing the announced truces - have stepped up their bombing campaign. These attacks constitute serious violations of international humanitarian law.

An effective and lasting cessation of hostilities is the only way to allow the delivery of humanitarian assistance and establish the conditions necessary for the resumption of negotiations. France, in collaboration with its partners, will spare no effort to find a political solution, in accordance with UNSCR 2254 and the Geneva Communiqué.
