Syria – Establishment of Transitional Justice and Missing Persons Commissions (20 May 2025)

France welcomes the Syrian transitional authorities’ establishment, on May 17, of national commissions for transitional justice and missing persons. This is a positive step toward Syrian reconciliation and recovery. We will closely monitor the next steps. There cannot be lasting peace in Syria without justice.

France will continue to stand with the Syrians in the fight against impunity for all the crimes committed and to support the UN’s work in this regard, as well as the work of civil society organizations.
