Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian took part today in the Sudan Partnership Conference held by video conference. Following the most recent Friends of Sudan meeting chaired by France on May 7, this conference, which was co-chaired by Germany, the UN, the EU and Sudan and brought together around 40 international delegations, represents a crucial step in terms of international support for Sudan and helps make financial assistance from external partners for the Sudanese government’s reform agenda a reality.
The minister announced France’s contribution in support of the Sudanese government amounting to €60 million out of a total of €100 million through the Multi-Donor Trust Fund established by the World Bank. This contribution reflects France’s ongoing commitment in support of Sudan’s democratic transition in order to help the new authorities ensure the country’s economic recovery and to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
The minister also reaffirmed President Macron’s commitment to hosting, in due course, a new high-level international conference in support of Sudan.
