Sudan (5 August 2019)

France welcomes the conclusion of a comprehensive agreement on the transition between the Transitional Military Council and the Sudanese opposition on August 2.

It commends the spirit of compromise demonstrated by the two parties, as well as the African Union’s mediation efforts, which led to the initialing of this agreement which sets out a clear time frame for the establishment, in the coming weeks, of a civilian-led government, a sovereign council and a parliament.

France urges the parties to implement this agreement in good faith, within the set time frame, in order to respect the will of the Sudanese people. It reaffirms its readiness to support this transition alongside Sudan’s partners.
