On April 4, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs will be in Madrid for the 3rd General Assembly of the Sahel Alliance chaired by José Manuel Albares, the Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation.

The international partners attending this meeting will review the strategy related to the fourth pillar of the Sahel Alliance in light of the re-articulation of resources announced on February 17 and in the context of strong political instability in the region, a large-scale humanitarian and food crisis, and the expansion of the terrorist threat toward the Sahel’s southern and western edges.

The members of the Sahel Alliance will express their determination to support local populations in the Sahel, particularly through the implementation of the Great Green Wall initiative.

They will pledge to step up their support for the Sahel’s border regions and the countries in the Gulf of Guinea region as part of an integrated, partnership- and prevention-based approach.

On the sidelines of the Assembly, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs will meet with his Spanish counterpart. In addition to discussing issues related to the Sahel and Ukraine, they will address various aspects of our bilateral collaboration and, in particular, will welcome the April 1st implementation of the dual nationality agreement signed by France and Spain on March 15, 2021, at the 26th French-Spanish Summit in Montauban.
