South Sudan –Violence in displaced persons camp in Malakal (February 19, 2016)

France condemns the violence that broke out in the UN Mission in South Sudan civilian protection site in Malakal, which took the lives of 18 people, including two humanitarian workers from Médecins Sans Frontières.

France calls on all parties to do everything they can to avoid an escalation of violence and ease tensions. It is vital for the peace agreement signed in August 2015 to be implemented to initiate the reconciliation process. All parties must fulfill their obligations to protect civilians and effectively guarantee the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, as well as the security of humanitarian personnel.
