South Sudan (7 November 2019)

France welcomes the efforts to ensure the formation of a transitional government of national unity in South Sudan by November 12, in accordance with the provisions of the revitalized peace agreement of September 12, 2018.

We call on the parties to uphold their commitments, and hope that the tripartite summit in Kampala, attended by the Sudanese and Ugandan leaders, will make it possible to achieve the goal of forming this government and to find realistic ways to implement, without delay, the outstanding pre-transitional provisions.

Peace in South Sudan can only be achieved if the leaders of South Sudan themselves commit to a process of reconciliation and uphold their commitments.
