Jean-Yves Le Drian will be paying his first visit to Belgrade on April 12 during which he will underscore the momentum of our bilateral relationship. He will meet with President Aleksandar Vučić, Prime Minister Ana Brnabić, and First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dačić.
On the bilateral level, following the signing on March 22 of the Belgrade Airport concession contract between the Serbian government and Vinci Airports, Mr. Le Drian and the Serbian Minister of European Integration will sign an agreement to finance pre-feasibility studies for the Belgrade Metro. He will also work on strengthening our bilateral cooperation in the fight against organized crime and terrorism. A general security agreement aimed at fostering cooperation with Serbia in this area will be signed. In this year marking the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI, in which our countries fought side by side, Mr. Le Drian will also visit the French Cemetery in Belgrade with his Serbian counterpart to honor the French soldiers who died fighting on the Eastern Front.
With respect to European issues, the visit will mark our support for Serbia’s European integration process and France’s attention to reforms relating to the rule of law and the development of regional cooperation in the Western Balkans, in a spirit of reconciliation. Mr. Le Drian will reaffirm in particular that France is committed to continuing the dialogue facilitated by the EU between Belgrade and Priština in order to completely normalize relations between the two parties.
