Ms Catherine Colonna, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, had a telephone conversation today with her Senegalese counterpart, Ms Aissata Tall Sall, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad.

This first conversation provided the opportunity to commend the extensive, longstanding and multi-faceted ties that bind our two countries, including in the area of education, agriculture, health and security.

The Ministers spoke about the major international issues, including the war in Ukraine, and the regional situation. Ms Colonna commended the role Senegal has played as chair of the African Union to promote international and regional peace and security.

The two Ministers also spoke about the imbalances caused by the war in Ukraine on agricultural markets. Ms Catherine Colonna reiterated the full commitment of France and the European Union to strengthening food security, particularly in Africa, through the implementation of the FARM Initiative (Food and Agriculture Resilience Mission) launched by France and endorsed by the European Council at the end of March 2022. The two Ministers also agreed that it would be beneficial for the EU, AU and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) to join forces to develop sustainable and resilient food production capacities in Africa, building on the commitments made at the Sixth European Union-African Union Summit on 17 and 18 February 2022.
