Senegal – Meeting between Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne and Mame Mbaye Niang, Minister of Tourism of the Republic of Senegal (Paris, May 2, 2018)

Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, Minister of State attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, received Mame Mbaye Niang, Senegal’s Minister of Tourism, on May 2.

This meeting provided an opportunity to review progress on the implementation of the joint roadmap, “Supporting Senegal’s emergence,” adopted during the France-Senegal intergovernmental seminar in October 2017. This roadmap identified tourism as one of the five priority areas for cooperation in the economic sector. It focuses particular attention on the development of the tourism industry and on sustainable tourism, as well as on training in the field of tourism.

With more than a million visitors a year, 43% of whom are French, tourism in Senegal contributes to almost 100,000 direct jobs and to 6% of Senegal’s GDP. A large number of French groups (Club Med, AccorHotels, Keran, Horwarth HTL) are active in Senegal.
