Jean-Marc Ayrault, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, spoke on the telephone with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, on November 17.
He reaffirmed France’s determination to continue dialogue with Russia on all international and bilateral issues.
The two ministers discussed the situation in Ukraine and the continuation of negotiations on the implementation of the Minsk agreements, in the run-up to the next ministerial meeting in the Normandy format.
Jean-Marc Ayrault reaffirmed France’s deep concern at the situation in Syria while the bombing by the regime and its supporters has resumed. He reiterated France’s appeal for a cessation of hostilities, unrestricted humanitarian access and the resumption of a political process leading to a transition in accordance with UNSCR 2254. He underscored the importance of following up on the report by the Joint Investigative Mechanism (JIM) whose mission it is to determine attribution of confirmed chemical weapons in Syria.
The two ministers also discussed the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and the need to continue the peace efforts in the Middle East.
