Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia – Violence in Parliament (27 April 2017)

France is monitoring the situation in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia with great concern. It strongly condemns yesterday’s violence in the Parliament, following the election of its president.

It calls on all the parties to exercise calm and reminds them that only a constructive political dialogue can stabilize the country in the long term. All political leaders must assume their responsibilities and choose the path of dialogue.

For France, respect for the Constitution, democratic principles and institutions is vital. The use of violence can only lead to the exacerbation of tensions.
