Q – What are the latest trade figures between France and Qatar ?
A - According to available data for 2016, France’s seventh-largest trade surplus is with Qatar. That figure is €1.6 billion (€1.8 billion in exports and €239 million in imports). During the first nine months of 2017, our imports to Qatar amounted to €432 million and our exports came to €1 billion. France’s market share in that country was 2.9% in 2016.
Investments between France and Qatar are on the rise:
- France is a preferred destination for Qatari investments. Qatar’s direct investments (FDI) in France have nearly tripled since 2011, reaching €3 billion in 2016. The flow of these investments reached €1.8 billion in 2016.
- French companies also have a strong presence in Qatar. French FDI in Qatar has doubled since 2008, reaching €1.6 billion in 2016.
France’s Caisse des Dépôts et des Consignations and the Qatar Investment Authority also created a joint investment fund to invest in SMEs with high potential for international development. Known as Future French Champions, this joint fund has been operational since June 2014. Its investment capacity is currently €300 million.
