Q – Do you have any reaction to the controversial remarks by the President of the Philippines, in particular referring to Adolf Hitler in relation to the execution of drug traffickers?
The Philippines have subscribed to conventions, particularly the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and made commitments relating to human rights. It’s up to the Philippines to honour them.
The increasing number of extrajudicial executions clearly contradicts those commitments. Likewise, France condemns incitements to violence and reaffirms its categorical opposition to the death penalty everywhere and under all circumstances.
In this context, the references to Hitler are quite simply appalling. It is unacceptable in the 21st century for anyone to continue to stray into making remarks that may resemble a justification of the Holocaust.
