France condemns the October 4th launch of an intermediate-range ballistic missile, which flew over Japanese territory, in the strongest possible terms. We call for Japan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity to be respected and assure the Japanese authorities of our total solidarity.

France also condemns North Korea’s previous two ballistic missile launches on October 1, which are further violations of UN Security Council resolutions prohibiting North Korea from moving forward with any type of launch that incorporates ballistic technology.

France remains highly concerned by the recent series of ballistic missile tests by North Korea, which are a threat to regional stability and international security.

France continues to urge North Korea to immediately comply with its obligations and to undertake a process leading to its complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization. We and our partners will remain wholely committed to ensuring the full implementation of UN Security Council resolutions and call on North
Korea to accept the offers of dialogue from regional stakeholders and return to the negotiating table.
