Nigeria – Catherine Colonna’s telephone conversation with her counterpart (23 August 2023)

Catherine Colonna, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, spoke on the telephone today to her new Nigerian counterpart, Mr Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
As Mr Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of Nigeria, is Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the ministers discussed regional and international issues, particularly the situation in Niger.

The Minister assured him of France’s wholehearted support for ECOWAS’s action to end the attempted coup and restore the constitutional order under President Bazoum.

The ministers also expressed their shared desire to continue strengthening bilateral relations between our two countries, particularly following President Tinubu’s visit to Paris in June for the Summit for a New Global Financing Pact.
