Nigeria – Visit by Jean-Yves Le Drian (12 June 2019)

Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, is visiting Nigeria today to attend the celebrations to mark Democracy Day, at the invitation of Muhammadu Buhari, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on the occasion of his inauguration.

The minister’s presence at this ceremony reflects the importance of our partnership with Nigeria, at the political level as well as in the security, economic and cultural fields. France supports Nigeria’s priorities with respect to the fight against terrorism and corruption. It is committed to Nigeria’s economic development, which is reflected by the bilateral assistance provided by the French Development Agency (AFD) and the French-Nigerian Investment Club created during President Macron’s visit to Nigeria in July 2018. The opening of the new Alliance Française in Lagos last month represents further progress in strengthening our cultural cooperation.
