Nigeria – Murder of humanitarian workers by an armed group in the northeast (22 July 2020)
France condemns in the strongest possible terms the murder on July 22 of five civilians, three of whom were working for international humanitarian organizations, by an armed group in northeastern Nigeria. It offers its condolences to the victims’ families and loved ones.
Atrocities against humanitarian workers cannot be tolerated and those responsible must be held accountable for their actions. International humanitarian law must be fully applied, particularly with respect to the protection of civilians, including humanitarian and health workers.
France reaffirms its support for the fight against terrorism in the Lake Chad basin and its solidarity with the authorities of Niger, Chad, Nigeria and Cameroon.
