Nigeria - Commemoration of the abduction of the Chibok schoolgirls (April 14 to 15, 2015)

One year ago, more than 200 schoolgirls were cruelly abducted in Chibok by Boko Haram.

In the face of this barbaric act which deliberately targeted women in a place devoted to the dissemination of knowledge, and, in turn, the future of a nation, our feelings remain as strong as ever. The perpetrators of these crimes must be brought to justice.

As soon as news of this abduction emerged, France took an active role in Nigeria’s efforts to find them. On May 17, 2014, a summit of heads of state of the region focusing on security in Nigeria was held in Paris, after which an action plan was adopted.

Today, we remain unwavering in our determination to combat Boko Haram together with the Lake Chad Basin countries. We lend our full support to President-elect Muhammadu Buhari in his efforts to successfully complete this task.

More than ever, France stands alongside the Nigerian people in the fight against terrorism.
