France condemns the deadly attacks perpetrated by the terrorist group Boko Haram in Niger and Cameroon over the last few days. It extends its condolences to the authorities of Cameroon, Niger and Chad, as well as to the victims’ families.
We welcome the implementation of a robust African response agreed upon at the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, and support the creation of a Multinational Joint Task Force made up of troops from Benin, Cameroon, Niger, Nigeria and Chad.
France has taken note of the postponement of the elections in Nigeria. It calls on all parties to ensure the holding of democratic and peaceful elections, within the provisions of the Constitution.
France stands alongside its African partners in the fight against terrorism and calls on the international community to strengthen its mobilization against this threat. We commend the determination of the EU member states, which met at the Foreign Affairs Council on February 9, to strengthen their support for this fight.
