Nigeria – Attack against a convoy by Boko Haram (25 July 2017)

France condemns the attack carried out by Boko Haram against a convoy on July 25 near Magumeri in Borno State, which left almost 50 people dead.

We extend our condolences to the victims’ families.

France encourages the states in the region to continue their efforts to combat terrorism and reaffirms its solidarity and its support in the face of these heinous acts.

On the military front, we have provided more than €30 million in bilateral support since January 2015 to the armies of Chad, Cameroon and Niger (intelligence, logistics, weapons and training).

At the humanitarian level, we provided assistance amounting to €13.5 million in 2016 to support humanitarian and stabilization projects in the four countries of the Lake Chad Basin, including €9.1 million specifically for the populations affected by the atrocities committed by Boko Haram. With respect to development, the French Development Agency’s Lake Chad initiative provided a total of €5 million in French grants and €31million through the EU Emergency Trust Fund. AFD has also launched a professional reintegration project in Diffa (Niger) at a cost of €10 million.
