Cameroon/Nigeria/Chad – Boko Haram terrorist attacks (January 17 and 18, 2015)

France utterly condemns the attacks perpetrated on 17 and 18 January in the far north of Cameroon, and the attack committed in Potiskum, Nigeria. We extend our condolences to the families of the victims of terrorism and call for the immediate release of the people kidnapped.

France reaffirms its solidarity with and support for the authorities and people of Cameroon, Chad and Niger in the fight against Boko Haram.

France pays tribute to the commitment of the Chadian authorities and supports a robust and concerted regional response. To this end, for several months we’ve been helping to ensure that the regional dimension of the crisis is taken into account. The action plan adopted at the Paris summit on 17 May enabled progress to be made in the fields of intelligence, international sanctions and the creation of a multinational combined force.

Jean-Marc Todeschini, Minister of State at the Ministry of Defence, will represent France at a high-level meeting to be held in Niamey on 20 January, which will enable efforts to be stepped up, as well as regional mobilization, to which the international community must provide increased support.
