Q : Today, the Nigerien military leaders stated that the French ambassador to Niamey has been deposed. They also revoked all of the military agreements with France. What is France’s reaction to this? How does France plan to maintain diplomatic ties with Niger? Will the French ambassador and military personnel deployed to Niger leave the country?

A : France emphasizes that the legal framework for our cooperation on defense issues with Niger is founded on agreements that were established with the legitimate Nigerien authorities. These are the only authorities that are recognized by France, as well as the rest of the international community.

France once again calls for the re-establishment of the democratic institutions of Niger.
