Netherlands – Visit by Clément Beaune to The Hague and Rotterdam (May 21-22)

Clément Beaune, Minister of State for European Affairs, attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, will be in the Netherlands – in The Hague and Rotterdam – on May 21 and 22.

In The Hague, he will meet with Dutch Foreign Minister Stef Blok. They will talk about the health situation and critical European coordination on the pandemic, specifically the conditions for free movement and vaccine production within the EU.

With regard to the Pact on Migration and Asylum and the reform of the Dublin Regulation, they will discuss the protection of the EU’s external borders, vital to the continuation of free movement within the Schengen Area and the viability of a common European asylum system.

Mr. Beaune and Mr. Blok will also address the challenges of European energy sovereignty, French-Dutch cooperation on climate change, and green taxonomy, looking ahead to a decarbonized economy in 2030 and then 2050.

Mr. Beaune will also present the preparations under way for the French European Council presidency in the first half of 2022 and will underscore our desire to promote and reinvigorate Europe, especially in connection with the Conference on the Future of Europe. Looking ahead to the next European Council, he will emphasize the importance of fully and completely implementing the agreements between the EU and the United Kingdom.
