Q : Following the EU’s decision to bolster sanctions against the ruling junta in Burma, Le Monde cites documents today showing that Total established a system of revenue sharing with the junta, via Bermuda. How do you respond to those allegations?

A : Our position, which the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs has reaffirmed repeatedly, is clear and unwavering: we condemn the coup and the indiscriminate crackdown that followed it. We have already taken measures on a national basis and with our European partners, targeting the economic interests of the Burmese security forces while sparing the civilian population, in order not to make the situation worse for the Burmese people.

As for the press allegations you mention concerning Total, we refer you to that company.
