United Nations – Burma/Myanmar - Publication of a report by the High Commissioner for Human Rights (February 3, 2017)

The report by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights on the situation in Burma notes very serious violations of basic rights, particularly affecting the Rohingya populations of Rakhine State. This systematic violence has forced tens of thousands of people to flee the country.

France expresses its concern over the unacceptable atrocities – murders, rapes, the systematic burning of villages – that, according to the report, were committed by the army. It calls on Burma to bring an immediate halt to this violence, to authorize humanitarian access, which is still being willfully hampered, and to authorize an independent investigation. Those responsible for the atrocities must be prosecuted for their actions.

This report will be examined by the UN Human Rights Council. We will work with our partners to that end.
