France welcomes the definitive abolition of the death penalty in Mongolia. This abolition concludes a process initiated in 2010 with the establishment of a moratorium which led to the adoption in 2015 of a new criminal code, which entered into force on July 1, 2017, eliminating all reference to the death penalty.
Mongolia is therefore the 106th state to have abolished the death penalty.
France is resolutely and unwaveringly committed to the universal abolition of this unjust, inhumane and ineffective punishment.
It calls on all states that still maintain the death penalty to establish a moratorium with a view toward its definitive abolition.
