Mongolia – Abolition of the death penalty (December 3, 2015)

France welcomes the abolition of the death penalty by Mongolia, whose parliament approved, on December 3, a new criminal code that will no longer include this penalty.

Following the ratification in 2012 of the Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights aimed at abolishing the death penalty, this decision is a concrete and encouraging sign of progress toward the universal abolition of the death penalty.

France reaffirms its constant opposition to the use of the death penalty everywhere and under all circumstances.
