Mexico - Meeting between Franck Riester and Mexico’s Under Secretary of Foreign Relations (12 September 2021)

Franck Riester, Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and Economic Attractiveness, attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, hosted Carmen Moreno Toscano, Mexico’s Under Secretary of Foreign Relations, yesterday.

The two ministers discussed the French-Mexican political, economic and trade relationship, specifically through various projects in the energy, transportation and health sectors.

In preparation for the 12th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization and ahead of the upcoming G20 trade ministers meeting, Mr. Riester and Ms. Moreno Toscano addressed the reform of the WTO as well as our two countries’ priorities with regard to healthcare governance, the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, and the integration of sustainable development into multinational rules.

Their conversation highlighted the convergences of our two countries on the updating of the EU-Mexico association agreement, which will strengthen opportunities for French and Mexican businesses, as well as our commitments on sustainable development and respect for the Paris Agreement. The ministers underscored their commitment to a swift conclusion of the agreement as negotiated.
