Malta – Visit by Jean-Yves Le Drian (Valetta, 29 April 2021)

Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian will travel to Valetta on April 29, where he will be hosted by Maltese President George Vella. He will meet with Evarist Bartolo, his Maltese counterpart, and Byron Camilleri, Minister for Home Affairs, National Security and Law Enforcement. He will also meet with officials from the European Asylum Support Office (EASO), the future European asylum agency, whose headquarters is in Malta.

During his meetings, the Minister will discuss major regional challenges, especially the situation in Lebanon and in the Mediterranean, the Sahel and Libya, as well as issues relating to migration. European coordination on the fight against Covid-19 variants and the reopening of European borders amid the pandemic will also be addressed.

Mr. Le Drian will discuss our bilateral relationship and particularly our good economic and cultural cooperation ahead of a symposium to be held on May 7 in Valetta on France and Malta’s shared history, jointly organized by the Office of the President of Malta and the French Embassy. It will open the Presidency Cultural Symposia Series focused on Malta’s place in the Mediterranean.
