Mali – Violence in Bamako – Statement by the Deputy Spokesperson (10 and 11 July 2020)

France condemns the violence that took place on July 10 and 11 in Bamako. It extends its condolences to the victims’ families.

It reaffirms its attachment to the right to demonstrate peacefully and to respect for institutions.

France took note of the announcements by Mali’s president on Saturday evening. It reaffirms its support for ECOWAS’s good offices mission and the recommendations it has made.

It strongly encourages the parties concerned to move in that direction. It reaffirms its solidarity with the Malian people and calls on the parties to urgently promote dialogue in order to find a lasting solution to the political and social crisis in the country.
