France condemns yesterday’s terrorist attack on a logistical convoy of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) between Tassalit and Aguelhok. Three Chadian peacekeepers were killed and two others were injured during this attack.
We offer our condolences to the loved ones of those killed, and to the Chadian and UN authorities. We wish those injured a speedy recovery. Chad is paying a heavy toll for peacekeeping and in the fight against terrorism in the Sahel. We applaud their resolute commitment.
Those responsible for this crime must be held accountable. Resolution 2374 (2017) makes it possible for the Security Council to take measures against those who have prepared, ordered, funded, or committed attacks against peacekeepers in Mali.
France reiterates its full support for MINUSMA’s efforts to stabilize Mali and for the increased capabilities of the G5-Sahel joint force aimed at combatting terrorism and trafficking in the region.
