Q : One of the main leaders of the former rebels in northern Mali, Sidi Brahim Ould Sidati, the current president of the Coordination of Azawad Movements (Coordination des mouvements de l’Azawad (CMA)), was killed in Bamako on Tuesday. What is your response? Will this murder complicate the implementation of the Algiers peace accords?

A : We utterly condemn the murder of Mr. Ould Sidati. Mr. Ould Sidati led the delegation of one of the groups that are signatories to the Algiers accord, the Coordination of Azawad Movements, during the most recent meetings of the Peace Agreement Monitoring Committee. He was a key stakeholder in this process.

France extends its condolences to Mr. Ould Sidati’s family. The perpetrators of these attacks must be identified and held accountable.

As Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian reaffirmed on February 11 when he took part in the meeting of the Peace Agreement Monitoring Committee in Kidal, France is, together with all of Mali’s international partners, very attached and attentive to the implementation of the Algiers peace agreement by the signatory parties, which remains central to resolving the crisis in Mali and the Sahel.
