Q – France mentioned several months ago that it would submit proposals on the Mali peace process to Algiers. Did that ever happen, and in what way? Do you have the sense that Algeria is fully committed to helping the political process in Mali?
A – As a leader of the international mediation effort by virtue of the Mali peace and reconciliation agreement of 2015, Algeria is an important player in the Mali peace process.
France and Algeria pursue a dialogue on regional issues at every level, and particularly on the peace process in Mali.
One example of this was the strategic dialogue in Algiers on November 12 between the two foreign ministers on the sidelines of the fourth French-Algerian Joint Economic Committee meeting. They specifically reviewed the implementation of the peace accord and noted our agreement on this issue.
