France welcomes the commitments undertaken on September 20 by two movements that have signed the peace and reconciliation agreement in Mali. It demonstrates their intent to move forward with a swift restoration of government authority over the entire territory.
As Jean-Yves Le Drian said at an event focused on Mali on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on September 20, several areas remain unresolved, including the reform of the security sector; the disarmament, demobilization and reintegration process; and decentralization.
In facing these challenges, Mali can count on France, as well as its European partners. The situation in the Sahel will be a priority for the French presidency of the UN Security Council this October.
