Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, took part today via video conference in the Follow‑Up Committee on the implementation of the Peace Agreement emanating from the Algiers process.

This high-level meeting, organized at the invitation of Algerian Foreign Affairs Minister and Mediation Lead Sabri Boukadoum, provided an opportunity for constructive discussions based on the new road map adopted by the parties to the agreement in December 2020. The minister welcomed the fact that, for the first time since the signing of the Algiers Accord in 2015, the committee was able to meet in Kidal, in northern Mali.

The minister also underscored the attachment of France and Mali’s international partners to the implementation of the Algiers Accord, a prerequisite for resolving the crisis in Mali and the Sahel. More than five years after the signing of the agreement, he stressed the outcome anticipated by the international partners and, above all, by the populations, with respect to security, the deployment of public services and development. This meeting reflects the diplomatic, political and development-related momentum called for by the minister in the run-up to the next summit in N’djamena, during his speech in the Senate on February 9.
