Mali – Attacks against MINUSMA and the Malian armed forces (24 November 2017)

France condemns the attack carried out on November 24 in Menaka against a joint operation by MINUSMA and the Malian armed forces, during which three Nigerien peacekeepers and a Malian soldier were killed, as well as the attack carried out the same day in Douentza against a MINUSMA convoy which killed a Burkina Faso peacekeeper. The targeted personnel were helping the Malian populations and carrying out their duty to protect civilians.

We extend our condolences to the victims’ families. We assure the Malian, Nigerien and Burkina Faso authorities, as well as the UN, of our wholehearted solidarity.

France reaffirms its support for the work of MINUSMA, which, alongside the Malian army and in accordance with the mandate entrusted to the mission by the Security Council, is working to promote reconciliation in Mali and to protect its inhabitants. It pays tribute to the commitment of the G5 Sahel countries to fighting terrorism in the region.
