Mali – Attack on MINUSMA (20 January 2019)

We strongly condemn the attack carried out against the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) in Aguelhok on 20 January 2019, in which 10 Chadian Blue Helmets were killed and many other people injured.

We pay tribute to the personnel who died and extend our condolences to their families. We commend the commitment of the Chadian forces in MINUSMA, who drove back the attack, neutralized several attackers and chased them as they fled.
France reaffirms its determination to fight with its partners against the scourge of terrorism. We ask everything to be done to ensure that the perpetrators of this attack are swiftly identified and brought to justice.

France reaffirms its full support for MINUSMA, whose role is essential for the stabilization of Mali.
