France noted with concern the tensions and violence that accompanied the opposition march that took place on Saturday in Bamako.

France reaffirms its attachment to respect for the right to demonstrate peacefully and the freedom of expression.

It encourages all political actors as well as civil society actors to demonstrate restraint and calls for the continuation of constructive dialogue between the government and the opposition within the framework of the electoral process under way in Mali. Dialogue between all Malian components is essential to the holding of transparent and credible presidential elections.
