Madagascar – Meeting between Jean-Yves Le Drian and his Madagascan counterpart (2 March 2018)
Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs will receive Henry Rabary-Njaka, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Madagascar.
In follow up to the meeting between President Emmanuel Macron and President Hery Rajaonarimampianina on June 28, the ministers will take stock of the joint commitments to strengthen our partnership, both with respect to support for Madagascar’s economic recovery as well as in the area of climate and renewable energy. The French-Madagascan conference on decentralized cooperation due to take place in a few days in Antananarivo (March 5-7) and the upcoming visit to Madagascar by Minister of State Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne reflect the quality and strength of relations between our two countries.
In addition, France is lending its support, in collaboration with its main international partners, including the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF), for the holding of free, transparent and inclusive elections in Madagascar by the end of the year (presidential elections) and at the start of 2019 (parliamentary elections).
The security situation in Madagascar, notably in relation to French nationals, will be discussed during the meeting.
