Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia - Meeting between Jean-Yves le Drian and his counterpart (Paris, April 4)

On April 4, Jean-Yves Le Drian is hosting Nikola Dimitrov, foreign minister of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

They will work on strengthening our bilateral relations, especially with respect to the economic plan and in the areas of security and La Francophonie. The ministers will discuss the centennial of the end of WWI, which will see common commemorations in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia where some 20,000 French soldiers on the Eastern Front lost their lives.

France will express its support for the reforms undertaken by the government as part of FYROM’s rapprochement with the EU and will underscore the importance of the rule of law. The meeting will also be an opportunity to work on preparations for the EU-Western Balkans summit, which will be held on May 17 in Sofia.

Mr. Le Drian will also discuss the challenges of regional cooperation and the European Neighborhood Policy in the Western Balkans and will express our support for the discussions under way between Greece and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia on the dispute concerning the latter’s name, in order to reach a mutually acceptable solution.
