Luxembourg - Meeting between Amélie de Montchalin and Jean Asselborn (18 septembre 2019)

Amélie de Montchalin, Minister of State for European Affairs, attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Luxembourg Jean Asselborn on September 18.

This meeting, which took place following the meetings between Luxembourg’s prime minister and President Macron and the French prime minister, follows on from the Grand Ducal couple’s visit to France and the holding of a France-Luxembourg seminar in 2018. It confirms the special relationship between France and Luxembourg which has allowed further progress to be achieved for the border populations. This is notably reflected by the new tax treaties concluded between our two countries which will simplify the lives of many cross-border workers, while making it possible to combat tax evasion more effectively, and by our shared commitment to providing funding on an equal basis - amounting to €240 million - for certain infrastructure needed in the Lorraine basin.

The Minister of State expressed France’s support for the strengthening of bilateral and cross-border cooperation with Luxembourg in order to promote the balanced development of our regions.

Amélie de Montchalin also expressed France’s determination to pursue constructive dialogue with Luxembourg on major European issues, whether with respect to the fight against climate disruption, the resources provided to the EU or the reform of the Schengen Area.
