Q: On Tuesday, Libyan Foreign Minister Najla el-Mangoush mentioned the possibility of postponing the general elections scheduled for December. Do you have any comment, and what can the countries involved with Libya do to avoid this?

A: The holding of legislative and presidential elections on December 24 is vital to stability and reconciliation in Libya. It reflects the will of the Libyan people as expressed in the road map of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum, which set that date, and which was endorsed by the UN Security Council. More than 2.8 million Libyans are now registered to vote.

We call on all Libyan leaders to assume their responsibilities for carrying through with this process without delay. France is coordinating closely with its partners and with the UN Secretary-General’s special envoy, Jan Kubis, to that end.
