Libya – Resumption of the 5+5 Joint Military Commission meetings (19 Oct. 20)
France welcomes the resumption of the direct talks within the 5+5 Joint Military Commission on October 19 in Geneva, under UN auspices. In this context, it calls for the signing of a lasting ceasefire agreement providing for an end to the arms embargo violations and the departure of foreign mercenaries from Libyan territory, in accordance with the principles agreed upon at the Berlin conference.
France is attached to ensuring that the inter-Libyan political dialogue moves forward in parallel, in an inclusive manner, within the framework proposed by the UN, with a view toward the holding of elections based on the parameters agreed upon by the Libyan people. Libya’s neighboring countries, which have a vested interest in the country’s stabilization, must be fully involved in this process.
