Q : What is your response following the killing of Libyan lawyer Hanan al-Barassi?

R : France strongly condemns the killing in Benghazi of Libyan lawyer and human rights activist Hanan al-Barassi. It extends its heartfelt condolences to her family and friends. It calls for a full investigation by the Libyan authorities in order to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous crime are arrested and brought to justice.

While the Libyan parties have embarked, with the support of France, on a process of dialogue, under UN auspices, this crime tragically underscores the urgent need to establish credible institutions that are accountable to the Libyan people and able to put an end to impunity.
