France condemns in the strongest possible terms the terrorist attack carried out yesterday in Tripoli on the headquarters of the National Oil Corporation (NOC), which killed two people and injured a dozen, according to initial estimates.
It offers its condolences to the victims’ families and loved ones. Through the attack on the National Oil Corporation, it is Libya’s sovereignty and its control over its oil resources – the common good of all Libyans – that are under attack. It is also the political process that this terrorist act is targeting.
At this difficult time, France stands shoulder to shoulder with the Libyan government and with all Libyan forces that are combating terrorism. Together with its partners, it will continue supporting the efforts of Libyans and the UN to ensure that Libya regains its stability, through the continuation of the political process and the holding of elections by the end of the year, consistent with the action plan of the UN secretary-general’s special envoy, Ghassan Salamé, and the commitments included in the political declaration issued in Paris on May 29.
