Lebanon – Women’s rights – Repeal of marry-your-rapist law (August 16, 2017)

On August 16 the Lebanese Parliament repealed an article in the country’s criminal code allowing the perpetrator of a rape to evade prosecution if he married his victim.

We congratulate all those who worked so hard for this repeal and applaud this step forward. Nevertheless, loopholes remain in certain cases. We hope they will also be swiftly repealed.
