France expresses its deep concern after an Israel Defense Forces drone dropped a grenade near a United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) position in the Kafr Kila region on October 11. This explosion injured an Indonesian peacekeeper. This incident follows on from incidents observed on October 1 and 2 when the Israel Defense Forces dropped explosive munitions in close proximity to UNIFIL patrols.

France calls on Israel to stop these violations of UN Security Council Resolution 1701. France stresses that the November 26, 2024, ceasefire must be respected by all parties. The oversight Mechanism established by the ceasefire agreement must serve as the parties’ agreed-upon framework for handling threats and preventing any unilateral use of violence, which would be detrimental to the security and stability of Lebanon and Israel.

France emphasizes that the protection of UN peacekeepers and the safety and security of UN personnel, assets and premises must be guaranteed under international law and Resolution 1701. At this difficult time, France hails the bravery, professionalism and dedication of UNIFIL personnel.
