Lebanon – Political situation (Oct. 31, 2022)

Yesterday, President Michel Aoun left the presidential palace after completing his term, in keeping with his oath of office and in line with constitutional deadlines.

Lebanon is in the midst of a deep and unprecedented economic, financial and social crisis that requires all of its institutions – the presidency, the government and the parliament – to function smoothly so that the necessary measures can be adopted to bring about the country’s recovery and immediately improve the situation of the Lebanese people. France therefore calls on all Lebanese stakeholders to assume their responsibilities and rise to the occasion, for Lebanon and for the Lebanese. We urge Lebanese parliamentarians to elect a new president without delay.
