The second Lebanese edition of the Photomed festival begins today at several Beirut galleries with the support of the Embassy of France and the Institut Français du Liban. The theme of the festival is “Photographic Meanderings from the Columns of Hercules to the Gates of the Orient.”
Created in France in 2011 by Jean-Luc Monterosso, head of the Maison Européenne de la Photographie, the Photomed festival has spread throughout the countries of the Mediterranean, showcasing the wealth and diversity of local cultures through the eyes of renowned and emerging talents.
Running through February 11, Photomed Beyrouth will present the rich photographic heritage of the Oriental Library [of the Saint Joseph University] and the Lebanese tourism ministry, along with work by international photographers – including two French greats, Patrick Terraz and Bernard Plossu – inspired by the Mediterranean. As part of our partnership with the Institut Français du Liban, the winner of the photography contest organized for this event will be invited to show his or her work at the Photomed festival in France in May 2015.
